A deep dive on pesos

The Mexican peso has evolved from the 15th century Spanish dollar, and was considered legal tender in the US until 1857. In 1993, the Bank of Mexico introduced the nuevo peso (new peso) to help combat years of inflation and devaluation. 1,000 old pesos became 1 new peso, with the ‘nuevo’ dropped in 1996.
